The Airport Ride From Hell

Let me tell you a story about limousine rentals. I needed a limousine to take my husband and I to the airport. This was no ordinary trip that we were taking. My husband and I waited 18 months to adopt a baby from China. When we finally found out who our baby was and where she was in China we were very excited. Because we were flying out from a neighboring state's airport, it was too far a distance for family to easily takes us and pick us up from the airport. We didn't want anything to go wrong the day that we were flying to China, so we decided to select a limousine car service so that we could have a stress-free airport ride.

We had never used a car service for airport trips so we did what most people would do. We looked in the telephone directory to see who advertised for airport service. My husband called up several companies that were local to us and we made our selection based solely upon price quotes. We gave a deposit and received a confirmation call the night before our trip. We specifically told the limousine service that we needed to be at the airport an hour before we really were supposed to be there.

The morning of our flight we were nervous for so many reasons. We were flying to China, we were becoming parents and we were waiting for the limousine. Guess what? The limousine was not on time. 20 minutes after the car was supposed to arrive we received a call from the company saying that the driver was in a car accident. They were sending another driver, but were told not to worry because airport traffic was light. We were told another time that the car would arrive. Of course, the car didn't come. We went back and forth and finally the car came, but we knew we were going to miss our flight to China. 

The ride to the airport was anything except stress free. I kept thinking that we had to be close to the airport and then I saw a sign that we were 10 miles away. I burst into tears because our flight was leaving in 45 minutes. I was sure we would miss the flight. Miraculously, we arrived and thanks to some wonderful airline employees, the flight was held for us and we were able to make the flight. It was a harrowing experience and one that I was never going to live through again. Was it worth saving 25% to go with a less expensive limousine service? NO!

Always get references from a limousine service company and call those references. Ask whether the cars arrived on time and whether the drivers were professional. Visit the limousine rental place in person so that you know the company really exists and you get a feel for how the office runs and how professional everyone at the office is. Ask to see the cars that are available for rental. Are they clean and dent free or are they old and run down looking? If you have an elegant event the last thing you want to show up in is a rusty old limousine. Get s signed contract for your limousine rental. If the company refuses to give you a signed contract then you know you should avoid the company because they are not confident in their ability to provide limousine services to you. Follow these tips and you will be sure to have a happy limousine experience.
